Globalization has been a powerful driver of economic growth since the 1970s and 1980s. However, after the 2007–2008 financial crisis, the idea of steadily accelerating global trade began to be questioned more seriously. In the years that followed, recovery was achieved through economic and fiscal policy reforms. Today, the COVID-19 pandemic and the increasing impact of the climate crisis are necessitating a change of course in terms of global trade. And digitalizationwill very likely play a key role in this process.
